Overview
Himouto! Umaru-chan R (2017) is the second season produced by Doga Kobo, continuing the daily antics of the multi-faced Umaru Doma and her long-suffering brother, Taihei. While maintaining the same vibrant energy as the first season, this installment places a stronger emphasis on the **deepening friendships** between Umaru and her core group: Nana Ebina, Kirie Motoba, and Sylphynford Tachibana. The season explores more of the girls' backstories—including Ebina’s search for her missing brother and Sylphynford’s relationship with her own brother, Alex—while Umaru begins to show subtle signs of **personal growth**, occasionally setting aside her "himouto" selfishness to support those she cares about. Blending heartwarming "slice-of-life" moments with Umaru's usual gaming obsessions and junk-food marathons, the series concludes with a focus on the unbreakable bond between the Doma siblings.
Synopsis
Himouto! Umaru-chan R returns to the dual life of Umaru Doma, the seemingly perfect high school student who instantly regresses into a soda-chugging, video-game-obsessed "himouto" the moment she enters her apartment. While her long-suffering older brother, Taihei, continues to balance her chaotic demands with his professional life, this season shifts its focus toward the deepening bonds between Umaru and her eccentric circle of friends. As Nana Ebina searches for her missing brother, Kirie Motoba pursues her dream of becoming a picture book author, and Sylphynford Tachibana reveals her own family vulnerabilities, Umaru begins to show rare glimpses of maturity. The story centers on Umaru’s subtle growth as she learns to cherish the people behind her various personas, all while maintaining her hilariously lazy habits and her secret "UMR" arcade identity.
