Overview
In a near-future society transformed by the advent of Your Forma, a revolutionary viral-based technology that links the human brain to a global information network, life has become seamless yet incredibly fragile. This sophisticated interface allows for instantaneous communication, digital overlays of reality, and the recording of every sensory experience a person undergoes. While it has eliminated traditional computers and smartphones, it has birthed a new breed of crime: Electronic Brain Crimes. These incidents involve the manipulation of memories, data theft from the subconscious, and psychological hacking that can lead to physical death. To combat these high-tech threats, the government utilizes specialized officers known as Electronic Investigators. These investigators possess the rare ability to "dive" into the recorded memories of individuals to extract evidence. However, the process is incredibly taxing; the speed of a human brain processing digital data is often too much for a partner to keep up with, leading to permanent neurological damage for many who try to assist. The world of Your Forma is one of sleek, sterile skyscrapers and neon-lit streets where the line between the physical self and the digital soul is perpetually blurred. In this environment, Echika Hieda, a young and brilliant but socially abrasive investigator, stands as one of the most talented in her field. Known for her "God-like" processing speed, she has cycled through dozens of human partners who simply could not withstand the mental strain of working alongside her. The series explores the ethical dilemmas of a society that has surrendered its privacy for convenience and the existential tension between humanity and the rapidly advancing artificial intelligence designed to serve them.
Synopsis
The first season of Your Forma begins with Echika Hieda being assigned a new partner after her previous one suffers a mental collapse during a memory dive. To her utter disdain, her new colleague is not a human, but an Amicus—a highly advanced android named Harold Lucraft. Unlike humans, Harold can process data at speeds that match Echika’s without risk of brain melt, but Echika harbors a deep-seated prejudice against artificial beings, believing they lack the intuition and soul necessary for true detective work. Their first major case involves a string of mysterious deaths where victims’ brains literally "overcooked" while they were using public network terminals. As they investigate, Harold’s polite, almost cheeky personality clashes with Echika’s cold professionalism, yet they prove to be a formidable team. They discover that the victims were all connected to a clandestine group advocating for "Digital Purity," leading them to a plot involving a corrupted version of the Your Forma thread that can bypass standard security protocols.
Mid-season, the stakes escalate when a high-ranking official is found dead in a locked room with his memory logs completely erased—an impossible feat under normal circumstances. Echika and Harold must perform a "Deep Dive" into fragmented residual data, a process that forces Echika to confront a traumatic incident from her past involving the technology that now defines her life. They uncover a conspiracy within the Interpol Electronic Investigation Department itself, suggesting that the Your Forma technology was never meant to be a tool for progress, but a means of total social surveillance.
In the climactic finale, the duo tracks the source of a lethal "Brain Virus" to a massive server farm hidden beneath an abandoned museum. The mastermind is revealed to be a former developer of the Your Forma system who seeks to "reset" humanity by triggering a global sensory overload. To stop the upload, Echika must perform a synchronized dive with Harold, merging their consciousnesses to navigate a collapsing digital landscape. The season ends with the virus neutralized, but at a cost: Harold’s memory core is severely damaged, leading to a partial reset of his personality. Echika, having finally accepted him as a partner and a friend, is left to face a new mystery regarding Harold’s original programming, which seems to contain hidden files linked to the very crimes they are meant to solve. The final shot shows a cryptic message appearing on Echika’s internal HUD, suggesting that the true architect of the crisis is still at large and watching her every move.
